Anyone can push cable through a wall and crimp an end on it. The test is what tells you it will still work in five years.

  1. Terminate to standard

    Correct pair twist maintained right up to the punch-down. Untwisting too much at the termination is the single most common cause of links that pass at first and fail under load.

  3. Test every link

    Each run is tested end to end, not sampled. A cable that mostly works is worse than one that plainly doesn\'t, because the fault surfaces intermittently.

  5. Check length and crosstalk

    Runs are verified against the distance limit and checked for the interference problems that cause packet loss rather than an outright dead link.

  7. Label and document

    Both ends labelled, ports recorded. You get the schedule, so you aren\'t dependent on us to work on your own building.

Data cabling & networking — common questions

Should I use Cat6 or Cat6A?

For most homes and small offices Cat6 is genuinely enough — it handles 10 Gigabit at the distances found in a typical building. Cat6A earns its extra cost on long runs, in high-interference environments, or where you're wiring a building you expect to hold for fifteen-plus years. We'll tell you which applies to your run rather than defaulting to the expensive answer.

Can you run cable in a finished house without wrecking the walls?

Usually yes. We fish cable through existing cavities, use basements and attics as routes, and where a wall does have to be opened we keep it to a small patchable hole. We'll walk the route with you before starting and tell you honestly where a visible run or a bit of trunking is the sensible trade-off.

What is structured cabling?

It's cabling installed as a planned system rather than as individual runs added over time: everything terminated to a central rack or panel, labelled at both ends, and documented. It costs a little more up front and saves enormously the first time something needs changing or diagnosing.

My Wi-Fi doesn't reach the whole house. Do I need a mesh system?

Often not. Most coverage problems come from access point placement, not equipment. A single well-positioned access point with a wired connection back to the router usually beats three mesh units repeating each other, because every mesh hop halves throughput. We'd rather run one cable than sell you three boxes.

Can you pre-wire a house that's still being built?

Yes, and it's much the cheapest time to do it. Cable run before drywall costs a fraction of retrofitting later. We put in runs for cameras, access points, TV points and office positions, and terminate them once the walls are closed.

Do you do bulk cable runs for commercial sites?

Yes — office fit-outs, warehouses and multi-tenant buildings. That includes containment, rack build, patch panel termination, labelling and a port schedule. We're used to working phased or out-of-hours where a site can't stop.

Can you fix cabling somebody else installed?

Yes, and it's a regular part of our work. Slow links, intermittent dropouts and dead ports usually trace back to one bad termination or a run over the distance limit. We test to find the actual fault rather than replacing everything and hoping.

Do you install VoIP phone systems?

Yes — handsets, cabling and the network configuration behind them. The cabling and the phone system are the same job in practice, which is why voice quality problems so often turn out to be network problems.
